Manifestation 101: Finding Out What You Truly Want

12. mars 2012

In order to live consciously, you have to know what you want your life to be like.  You need to have a clear idea about where you want to go, what you want to become – what you want to manifest in your life. That, however, can be quite a challenge.

You see, we are all, to some extent, conditioned by the society we live in. We are raised to meet everybody elses expectations and standards, and if we haven’t really been thinking about ourself and our wants, needs and desires since we were three (and possibly also have been punished for voicing those wants, needs and desires), we may have lost touch with them altogether.

To tell you the truth: Most of us are working our asses off to manifest someone elses wish for what we should do, be and achieve.

So many personal memories from earlier days come to me now.

Like the time I went to the high school I «should»  be going to, because everybody else did. (I was totally miserable, to the point where I’d get sick to my stomach just thinking about going. Luckily, I was aware of my needs  ((and had parents who understood)), so I left for spring break and never went back.)

Or when I applied to the job I didn’t want, just because I know had an education and was expected and supposed to build a name and a career for myself. (I got it – but saying that it went «down the drain» is a MASSIVE understatement.)

Do you know what I mean?

It takes enormous amounts of energy to manifest a «should». It’s an uphill battle – and the consequences of actually manifesting it can be horrible. If I had stayed in school, I’d probably have to use several years of my life to get back on the track I wanted to walk. And I’m still trying to get back on my track after having accepted that stupid job.

The question, then… is:

What do you want?

You need to get totally clear on this before you even start thinking about manifesting. You need to dig down to the core of you.

Take a pen and paper with you, sit down somewhere quiet. Close your eyes and think back to when you were little. What made your heart sing? What did you do when you were totally wrapped up in your own bliss, and when you were losing yourself in your activities?

How about when you got older? What kind of teen were you?

How about now? Do you have anything that just takes you away, that you can do forever?

Write it down! This, my dear, is the blueprint for what you are here to manifest in some way. This is the skeleton you will be fleshing out as you get into the details.

I, for one, have always loved writing. I started journaling at 7, and I would lose myself in texts every single day. I’d read a lot, and I’d write a lot. That’s kinda what I did. I loved language, too, and I’d communicate with tourists visiting Norway’s largest stave church on my way to and from school every spring and fall.

And I’d always make fun codes to write notes to my friends at school, so fascinated by different ways of communicating – even telepathy. I also had a thing for witches (the manifesters), and Cinderella stories (transformation). And I still do!

Besides, I’d spend my summer days out in nature, looking for herbs to gather. My hours in the library had taught me where to find good books on the subject, and I studied herbalogy from a very early age. That is, before all the Shoulds finally got to me.

So, for me, some of my keywords are writing, reading, communication, manifesting, transformation, nature and herbs. This website, then, is completely aligned with my manifestation DNA. It’s within my blueprint.

And the keywords you come up with, my wildly dear reader, is a reflection of your true wants and needs. Anything else, anything that takes you away from them or just doesn’t fit into that picture, is a Should.

Now… take a minute to assess your life situation right now. Find out what you are trying to do with your life. Take a look at what you are working towards. Are you working within your blueprint flow, or are you working against to please all the should’ers in your life?

You might also want to try reframing your goals. Let’s say you think you want money  – but «money» is not at all in you keyword list, and you’re finding it extremely hard to manifest. Take a look at the concept of money you carry within, and see if you can find other words to describe that want. Maybe it’s freedom, bounty, sufficiency, safety or something in the lines of that?

Do you see something in your list that aligns with the emotions these words give you? Do you see any possible professions for you in your keywords? Or maybe you’ll even discover what you’re really looking for is to experience the richness of nature, so that self-sufficiency would be your way to go to your personal happiness.

Now that you have a general idea of what you truly want, you can begin fleshing it out and dream up different scenarios you could live. Pay special attention to the feelings that come up when you dream about them, and write down the best day dreams in your journal.

This, my dear, is what you can choose to start manifesting. 🙂

  1. You just LOVE giving me new writing lessons, don’t you? 😉 Luckily, I love doing them. 🙂 Now where is my fountain pen?

  2. BTW, this paragraph sings to me, «You might also want to try reframing your goals. Let’s say you think you want money – but “money” is not at all in you keyword list, and you’re finding it extremely hard to manifest. Take a look at the concept of money you carry within, and see if you can find other words to describe that want.
